Health Canada has issued a recall for three hair dryer models sold on over concerns they may shock the user.
Each of the hair dryers is considered an electrical hazard by the agency because they are missing a safety feature called an immersion protection device. As a result, they pose a risk of electric shock that could cause serious injury or death if the hair dryer fell into water when plugged into certain outlets.
The first brand, sold under the name “LVOE Hair Dryers,” comes in purple, pink, light grey and gold shades. Each one has four nozzles, multiple air settings, temperature control and a diffuser. They can be identified by the phrases “Product name,” “Hair Dryer” and “product model: X13,” which are printed on a label on the hair dryer packaging.

The second affected model are the Guangmei 3858 foldable travel hair dryers. As the name suggests, they are foldable, portable hair dryers that were available in blue, pink and purple. Each one has a red switch with three adjustable gears, an air-collecting nozzle and the words “Guangmei 3858 hair dryer” are printed on the side.
The third affected product is the XZT Huizhou brand of compact mini hair dryers. They are also foldable and sold in blue, green, pink and white shades. All the variations have a white switch with two gear settings and a thermostatic function. Two animal faces and the words “Fashion Hair Dryer” are printed on the side of the device next to a white button with “OK” embossed on it.
Health Canada of each hair dryer model as part of the recall notice.
Anyone who purchased one of the affected hair dryers should stop using it immediately and destroy it by cutting the cord and throwing it out. Consumers who bought the hair dryer should have received a recall email and must respond to it with a photo of the destroyed hair dryer. AliExpress will be fully refunding anyone who bought one of the potentially hazardous hair dryers.
Between April 2023 and February 2025, nearly 50 of the hair dryers were sold in Canada. As of May 2, no incidents or injuries have been reported in Canada.
