Thousands of runners and walkers took to the streets of Toronto on Sunday for the annual .
The 25th annual running and walking event began in midtown with the first wave of runners starting at 7:30 a.m. and ended with a celebratory post-run party at Bandshell Park.
Participants kicked off the race by heading south on , then heading west on Wellington Street and south again on Bay Street before following Lake Shore Boulevard west to Ontario Place and Exhibition Place.
By the end of Sunday, reported that Jeremy Coughler finished first in the men’s category with a run time of 29:04, Rachel Hannah won in the women’s category with a time of 32:55, Ïve Bastrash had the top time in the non-binary category with a 38:40 and Marie Constantino had the best time of 32:49 in the undisclosed category.
Over 23,000 people participated in the run on Sunday.
The net proceeds from the Sporting Life 10K go to , a charity focused on supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer with in-hospital and overnight camp programs.
This year, the run raised $2.4 million for Campfire Circle, bringing the total funds from the past 25 years to $29 million, according to Kate Daley, an associate director of communications for the charity.
Daley also added that the fundraising will continue until the end of the month and there will be a virtual race running from Sunday until May 31.
