A man is facing multiple fraud-related charges after police say new bank accounts and credit cards were made using documents stolen from victims’ mail.
The 40-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested Monday in Newmarket and is facing 29 charges relating to an investigation that began in December after investigators received reports about banking and identification documents missing from resident mailboxes, York Regional police said on Wednesday.
Shortly after the documents went missing, bank accounts and credit cards were made using the victims’ names.Â

At the time of the man’s arrest, an “overwhelming amount” of identification and other fraudulent documentation was found, none of which was in the suspect’s name, the release said.
The individual has been charged with multiple counts of fraud over $5,000, obtaining credit by false pretences, identity theft and identity fraud.
