The woman was stabbed once according to Peel paramedics, who transported her to a trauma centre. Police initially said the woman had suffered life-threatening injuries but paramedics said she was conscious, alert and likely in stable condition when they took her to hospital.

Officers are searching for a male suspect but do not have a description. Investigators are reviewing camera footage and are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed an “altercation” between a man and a woman in the area sometime around 6 p.m. or just after.

There is a large police presence near the intersection and people are asked to avoid the area.
