The NHL says it has suspended a top Florida Panthers executive for a series of “inappropriate” posts on social media.
The X account of Douglas Cifu, who is the vice chair, partner and alternate governor of the Panthers, is now deactivated. But screenshots appear to show Cifu arguing on Sunday with a fan, calling them a “51st state anti Semite loser” and promoting the elimination of Hamas.
In a statement to the Star, the NHL said Cifu’s posts were “unacceptable.”
“As a result, Mr. Cifu has been suspended indefinitely from any involvement with the Club and the NHL,” the league said. “An in-person meeting will be scheduled with Mr. Cifu and the Commissioner at a date to be determined.”

The Star has contacted the Panthers for comment.
Cifu is CEO of Virtu Financial, which he co-founded with Panthers owner Vincent Viola in 2008. He also serves on the board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The Panthers are tied 2-2 with the Maple Leafs in the second round of the NHL playoffs. Game 5 is set for Wednesday at Scotiabank Arena.
