Deepak, from Brampton, Ont., won $100,000 playing LOTTO 6/49 with ENCORE
It was an early October day in 2023 when Deepak decided to check his lottery ticket. The Brampton resident — who had moved from Nepal two years earlier — was at his local mall.
Deepak had been playing OLG since he arrived in Canada because he knew that, even if he didn’t win, the money it raised went back to support Ontario. And there was another important reason. “Once you have a ticket in your pocket, you can dream,†he said.
“I checked my ticket on the self-scanner and saw ‘Big Winner’ appear on the screen. I took the time to inspect the numbers – I wanted to be sure,†he said. “I thought, ‘What?!’â€
Wanting to make it even more certain that he won, Deepak pulled out his phone and scanned the ticket using his OLG app. He had purchased the LOTTO 6/49 ticket at a convenience store on Steeles Avenue and had opted to spend the extra dollar to add ENCORE to the draw. That is what happened to Deepak. He had matched six of the seven ENCORE numbers, winning $100,000.
“I started to inspect the screen and figured out how I had won,†he said. “I was so excited. I started to think about how much I could do with this money.
“I was so happy,” the warehouse operator said. “I kept checking the ticket on the app because it felt so good to see that I had won.

“I feel so thankful for this blessing. I feel good playing the lottery and it feels incredible to win. My heart feels so full,†Deepak said.
Deepak said he plans to use restraint when it comes to his winnings and will spend the money — he wants to properly plan how to enjoy it.
“I can do so much with this money. I will share with my family to ensure they are taken care of,†he said. “I will enjoy the flexibility to help others in need, especially as we approach the cold winter months. I want to be sure I use some of this to take care of others who have been forgotten.
“It’s incredible to win,” Deepak said. “My eyes will be cleaned today from my tears of joy.”
