“We were living in Kingston and had been retired for a few years when John and I started our search for an affordable bungalow.
“My elderly mother is in her 90s and I wanted to have a space where we could take care of her if needed, but there weren’t many budget-friendly options to choose from.
“When my hairdresser told me about The Bluffs at Huron in Goderich, to be honest, my first thought was that it was too good to be true. But because I used to live on the water and missed it, I thought John and I should at least make the drive to check out the community.
“It’s no exaggeration when I say it took about two minutes for me to fall in love. From the beautiful homes and scenic Lake Huron surroundings to the incredibly kind and welcoming residents, it felt like home before we could even run the numbers to see if buying was possible!
“So many people we passed while exploring the property asked if we wanted to walk through their homes, shared details about the amazing clubs and groups we could join, and everyone was so excited to talk about the sense of community and genuine care people showed to one another here.
“I had no idea a community like this existed and the feeling of being immediately welcomed made John and I feel like we could envision ourselves living here. So, when we realized we could afford to buy, we didn’t wait.
“In September, we’ll have been here for three years, and that loving feeling is still so strong. From day one, we were welcomed with open arms and even now, if people don’t know who we are, they’re quick to start a conversation.
“There’s so much to love about this community, but one of the highlights is that there are so many amazing activities to keep people active and connected. I serve as the chair of our social committee, and we’re always focused on finding ways to connect people with fun groups, clubs, and events.

“We currently have 26 options that include everything euchre, cornhole, pickleball, yoga, aquafit, walkfit, chair calisthenics and line dancing to book clubs, painting classes, musicians jam sessions, dances, street parties, potlucks and singles events.
“That list is always growing. It doesn’t matter what your interests are — there’s a club or group to suit them.
“The longer we’re here, the more we love it. From the beautiful, maintenance-free bungalows and incredible Lake Huron sunsets that compare to any you’d see worldwide to our full social calendars and the genuine care we feel from our neighbours, we can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
